Not sure about you, but it seems as if the world is really uptight lately. And it seems to be getting worse. This isn’t your everyday usual whining. It is hard core doom and gloom. It seems like every time you turn around there is an overabundance of negativity being spewed into the cosmos. It isn’t just anger, although there is a whole lot of that going on. It’s the blame game. It’s the poor me attitude. Personal accountability has reached an all time low and anxiety levels are out of control. Unless you’ve been living under a rock I am sure you have noticed too. Maybe you are contributing as well. I personally find it to be tiresome. To quote my favourite fictional detective Hercule Poirot, “I have arrived at the age of reflection”. These days I am apt to distance myself from negativity. It doesn’t serve me. I find myself watching and listening to people, trying to understand what led to this place of hysteria. Some say it was the pandemic. The escalation of global conflicts. But you know what, my parents lived through a world war. My Dad was a POW for six weeks. They were immigrants in a new country. And yet, with all that they saw at a young age, I didn’t see them turn to hatred. They were good and decent people. As were so many that they encountered in their lives. I grew up during the cold war. You just got used to it. The biggest fear was the USSR would try to nuke the States, miss, and hit us. All of the things we fear most in our future often never come to fruition. I believe that the changes we see are because of one thing. We are entering or we are in the Age of Aquarius. Not the peace and love times like the movie “Hair”. This is much different.
Now I know it seems silly to believe in such things, but I am also a Christian and a lot of folks think that is pretty silly too. Astrology is in fact a very complicated pseudoscience. But let me break it down into simple terms. The celestial sphere is just a sort of made up ball surrounding the universe. All of the astronomical bodies, are also contained within this sphere. So when we look out into the cosmos, or this sphere, everything seems to be in a fixed spot. Regardless of how far away it is. That doesn’t matter. It appears as if the earth is standing still and the objects in the sky are rotating to the west. So the sun looks as if it is moving a little more east each day when compared to the stars. Because the earth is tilted, the sun makes an off centre path called the ecliptic. And that takes a year. Twice a year the sun passes over the equator. This is called the solar equinox. Twice a year the days are the same length everywhere across the earth.
The Zodiac signs represent the 12 constellations. We pass through these constellations every year. We all know about that. Our sun signs and moon signs. But, as the earth rotates, it wobbles a little bit causing it to shift somewhat. So right now the north pole is pointing to the North Star or Polaris. The wobble causes the earth to change the direction of the north pole every 26,000 years give or take. This is called precession of the equinoxes. Maybe you’ve heard of Vega. Its a younger bright star. In about 13,000 years it will be the new north star instead of Polaris. But getting back to the 26,000 years… This is divided into twelve astrological ages named for the twelve zodiac signs. These are referred to as the great ages and are distinguished by which zodiac sign the March equinox is in, while in the northern hemisphere. So this changes every 2200 years or so and this last March shows we are nudging really close to the great age of Aquarius as we leave Pisces behind.
Now what does this mean to you and me? Well to you, probably nothing unless you are a pot smoking, old hippy, who carries crystals, reads rune stones and angel cards, composts, recycles, grows her own vegetables and knows all about their astrological signs. No, that’s not true. That’s just me. But there are a lot of similarities in people who believe in these things. You can toss in veganism, global warming believers, earthing or grounding. The hippy movement is still around it has just grown larger and more encompassing. But getting back to the age of Aquarius, it is actually a time which is very in tune with the sun sign Aquarius. I am an Aquarius. In fact both my sun sign and moon sign are Aquarius. So this is my jam. And believe it or not, I am pretty in line with my star signs. So what is that exactly?
While our symbol is that of the water bearer, Aquarius is in fact an air sign. As are Gemini’s and Libra’s. Air signs are considered the “thinkers” of the zodiac world. They analyze. Love to learn but also love to communicate. Love a good discussion. Friendly yet aloof. The water bearer of Aquarius symbolizes the pouring out of knowledge and wisdom to the world. The flow of ideas. Aquarians are the idea’s guys. Forward thinkers so to speak. Yet, not really the doers. Considered humanitarians, Aquarians seek to better society through advancements be it social or technological. They embrace change but for the better good. Not change for changes sake. Aquarius is also a fixed sign which sounds odd as we don’t come across as stable. We seem more outwardly odd with our heads in the clouds. But when push comes to shove, Aquarians can be counted on to get it done, in a crisis, in a pinch or just when they truly believe in something. Now our ruling planet is Uranus which is an odd duck itself as it appears to rotate on its side. It is the planet of originality. So it would seem that the sign of Aquarius is in many ways a contradiction or dichotomy. Ultimately a Paradox in many ways. Friendly but without many deep friendships. Crave freedom above all else, yet find comfort in belonging. Social creatures yet seek solitude for long periods in order to reset. We find peace in the familiar and are nostalgic yet we seek out the new and unknown. Often seem cold and me oriented yet we are humanitarians to the nth degree. While we are open minded we can seem idealistic and stuck on an idea. While we love to talk, we hate small talk because ultimately we are jonesing for deep conversations. That serves our need for deeper connections to others.
So what does all this mean for the age of Aquarius? Well there is quite a bit but lets just narrow it down. We are leaving the age where although life became better for so many, such as advancements in health and wealth. Yet like everything in life there are extremes. Those left behind and those who seem to have it all. Everything to this point has also contributed to our ever expanding mindset of self importance. Consumption. Having more and more yet never satisfied. There is a great struggle to attain higher levels. Not just for ease of life but for the craving of admiration and accolades. There is a fight against the religions of old as the seem to stifle and control. It goes hand in hand with the fighting back of the have nots against the haves. While we see the rise of the super rich and powerful we feel anger and perhaps jealousy yet we contribute to their success. All is done in a misguided idea that we too can attain greatness. But to what end. And at what cost.
I have such a unique social circle that I am sometimes so intrigued by the opposite forces in play. There is definitely a huge shift away from organized religion. I hate that term. Is disorganized religion better? But I digress. I see a huge swing towards a spirituality form of existence. The power struggle is real as the deeply religious are seeing a loss of followers and the devout are doubling down hard. This will be a big part of the warring areas in the age of Aquarius. Technology will rule but religion will one day be something people used to do. Now I am not talking about God. For even though many have moved away from the idea of an all knowing and all powerful deity, there is a shift towards the concept of humanity interconnectedness through energy. We are all one. A realization that we are not our bodies. We just are. What that is, well, is anybody’s guess. The journeys of the individuals are varied and diverse but the end result will be the same. A deeper connection to humanity as a whole.
The technological advancements which will continue to grow by leaps and bounds will cause huge rifts going forward. We can’t go back. This is a snowball that is heading down the mountain and gaining speed exponentially. The problems will come from the same old story of yesterday. Will the gains be for good or bad. Well, both I’d say. There will always be those who use others for personal gain. There will be more and more control of the masses going forward. Yet there will be larger numbers fighting against that control either through passive actions or through strong aggression. Ultimately a war like atmosphere will be vocalized by many. Trust me when I say this is 100% based on fear. Knowledge and technology will be king but those trusting in the ideas and thoughts of others will be left behind forever. They will be the worker ants who are just there to perform and be controlled. There will be just enough incentive for them to follow along while there will be those who take control of their own knowledge and seek answers rather than talking points. Fear and anger fuel distrust and it is used now and it will be used even to a greater extent in the passing of the ages. But it is easy to withstand the onslaught of negativity. Just don’t engage. Rather focus on the positive traits which will come from the age of Aquarius. Embrace them.
The truth is we are all of one consciousness in this world. More and more people are embracing the realization that the good of the group must come before the good of the individual. It is a cliche’, but truly no man is an island. We need each other. If you are on the path towards an enlightened future, you know what awaits you going forward. If not, trust me when I say more and more people are leaving the selfish ways behind. They understand there is nothing to fear no matter what you read on social media. Life is glorious. It truly is an incredible honour to be a part of this world. The lucky straw we all drew is so random yet so improbable. Gosh we are so blessed to spend time in this world. The age of Aquarius may usher in things people fear because there will be so much new and improved. But you can still chose the simple things in life. Chose helping a fellow man over hate of immigrants. Chose non judgement of those who live life differently. Respect the fact that we are all in different stages on this journey. Life is not black and white. It is varying shades of murky grays and beiges. When you allow fear to create anger, a little bit of your soul dies. Just as important, you cause physical harm to your body. While we don’t have to embrace change but we don’t have to be like the luddites of old.
In the end, accepting that life will continue to change can help us to cure most of the problems in the world. Like Ferris Bueller says “Life moves pretty fast”. It will get faster. Resist if you must. But resist in a passive personal way. Don’t fight for another mans cause. Don’t jump on a band wagon others feel passionate about. They too will use you just as those they fight against are accused of using you. Search your heart, learn, respect others and understand that the only good outcome is a society that values everyone. Because in the Age of Aquarius, its gonna get rough and only love and compassion will bring about the peace we all seek. And only those who take personal responsibility will find that peace in themselves. I have learned that the most angry and unhappy people blame others for their misfortunes. I encourage you to do a vibe check. What are you contributing to the cosmos? Anger or peace. Because whichever it is, that is what you can expect to see more of in the future in your own life. So relax. It’s gonna be fine. Or no! You chose. Much love people.
